What does a Life Coach do?

We love the analogy that a coach is a vehicle that helps transport someone from where they are to where they want to be. Of course, we’re talking about the vehicular kind, but that same analogy could most certainly be used to describe a Coach of the human kind too!

A Life Coach helps their Client to identify goals in different areas of their life, and then guides their Client towards their goals by questioning, clarifying, provoking, challenging, encouraging and supporting them through change. A Coach will also keep the Client accountable to their goals.

Coaching focuses on results and outcomes, and Clients will generally work on their goals between sessions. It focuses on the future, and doesn’t dwell on the past, and a Coach needs to totally believe in the Client’s ability to reach their goals. It is a very fast-moving, forward-focused process, which aims to uncover options and solutions very quickly. It does not focus heavily on problems, but rather on where Clients are now, where they want to be, and what is the quickest and most effective route to get them there.

What does a Workplace Coach do?

Workplace Coaches are generally managers who utilise a very useful set of tools to ensure resilience, loyalty, and more effective behaviour from their staff, and to deal with difficult people and conflict in a much more resourceful way. They take the time to get to know their staff’s goals and dreams, and help them move towards them whilst also keeping focused on the company’s goals. They realise that some of the old ways of managing staff do not lead to long term joy for the organisation, and may also use on-the-spot coaching to create a better environment and culture.

What areas of coaching can I specialise in?

We always recommend that coaches find a specialty, so that they can market more efficiently and become known as experts in their field. You could become a Relationship Coach, a Spiritual Coach, a Team Coach, a Corporate Coach, a Business Coach, an Executive Coach, a Health Coach, a Parenting Coach, a Performance Coach… In fact, you could coach on just about any topic you like! At Dare Coaching Academy, we’ll help you find your niche and give you the tools to market to them more effectively.

What will I get out of becoming a Coach, other than becoming a Coach?

Becoming a Coach is about changing your whole life. It’s about understanding people and yourself better, and taking your communication skills and relationships to a whole new level. It’s about understanding that there is no judgement, and that we are all doing the best we can with the resources available to us at the time, and that when we change our mindset we can change our world. It’s about recognising that enough is enough and that NOW is the time to start really living your life – the way you really want to live it.

What is NLP?

NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, has three components: Neuro – about the mind, the brain, our senses and the way we filter information; Linguistic – about our language, both verbal and non-verbal, our body language, and how we all hear things differently; and Programming – about the programmes and patterns that we all have instilled within us, that may have been created as children, and how we can change the ones that no longer serve us.

Its purpose is to create choice and wholeness, and we believe NLP is the missing link for many people in their personal and professional lives. It equips you with a toolbox of strategies to use on yourself, with your team, on your clients, and in marketing and sales situations, and it gets amazing results, quickly!

Traditionally, NLP has been used to treat anxiety, depression, eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorders, learning difficulties, weight issues, phobias, limitations, learned helplessness, procrastination, lack of confidence, allergies, indecision, uncontrollable or unpredictable anger, stress, manic depression, obsessive compulsive behaviours, self contempt, personality disorders, and much more! So, for Coaches, it can help get affected clients to a good starting point from which to propel them towards their goals.

In a workplace setting, it can help managers create loyalty and harmony in their teams, manage their time better, enhance communication with different personality types, build exceptional rapport, gain deeper insights into others, understand motivation, ask questions that get to the heart of the matter in seconds, change perceptions, beliefs, values and behaviours in an instant, and model successful people. In fact, the applications are endless.

How is coaching different to counselling or consulting?

Coaching is very forward-focused and doesn’t generally deal with people’s issues or dramas. By acknowledging where a person is at right now, and changing their perspectives, we’re able to move them forward towards their desired goals without having to delve into their negative past. As Coaches, we don’t give advice, preferring to work with the premise that people know themselves and their businesses better than we ever could – it’s just up to us to ask them the perfect questions to uncover the answers and avenues that are correct for them, and support them through their transformation.

What other things will you teach me to build my income?

At Dare Coaching Academy, we build specialists in human transformation. We create experts in their field. Our coach training is innovative, thorough, and personalised, and conforms to international standards, including that of the International Coach Federation. Our students have the opportunity to do many different modules that enable them to add different income streams to their coaching businesses, such as writing, speaking, and running workshops. We believe that having multiple streams of income give our students the leverage to become the best in the business.

I’ve been ‘coaching’ for ages. Why do I need formal training?

When you say that you’ve been coaching for ages, our guess is that you have helped people with their problems and have had great conversations that have moved people forward. The beauty about the coaching industry is that it’s so much more than that. Our training will teach you specific tools to use with your clients, a framework for running a coaching series, and the business of coaching. You will learn awesome techniques to build rapport, get to the heart of the matter with just a few questions, and how to get rid of limiting beliefs in just minutes. The facts are that we don’t know what we don’t know, so our guess is that you’ll be wonderfully surprised by what our training will offer you, and that it will dramatically build on the skills that you already have.

Can I really make a good living out of being a Coach?

Some coach training organisations make it all seem so easy to make a great living out of having your own coaching business.  We’re going to be frank here – you may or may not earn a good income out of being a Coach. The difference will be in your drive to succeed, your use of the knowledge we give you, and your application of our models and processes. If you do all of that, your earning capacity will be limited only by your imagination and level of creativity! The other really huge factor here is that your quality of life will absolutely improve through your new knowledge, and you’ll realise what real ‘living’ is! So, yes, you can make a good living (even a really great living) out of coaching, and we at Dare Coaching Academy will give you all the necessary tools and support that you’ll need to get there.

When I complete the training, what will I be able to do?

Depending on which track you take, and what your ultimate goals are, you will be qualified to run your own coaching business, add coaching to your management skills in the workplace, or simply take coaching skills back into your life. During our enrolment procedure, we make sure you are taking the track that is going to add the greatest value to your life and your circumstances, and that your end goals will ultimately be met.

How long will it take me to have my coaching business up and running?

That will be completely up to you. We encourage our students to start coaching pro bono clients half way through their course, and many students have several paying clients or even a full practice by the time they finish their course. We will show you how to set up, market, and expand your coaching business, and then you will decide how many clients you want!

What support will you give me to get my business up and running?

We will give you the training to be a phenomenal coach, and to have a coaching business that really works for you. We will also mentor and coach you, and help you pave your own individual pathway to success.

What about if I’ve never had any experience with running my own business before?

That’s fine. Congratulations on taking the first steps to freedom! All of our students have varying levels of experience in the business world, with many having none at all. We will show you what you need to do, and work closely with you to guide you to the perfect business for you.

How much money do Coaches actually make?

How much money do you want to make? The decision is really yours. Generally, life coaches charge between $100 and $200 an hour, with specialty coaches charging much more. With our training on multiple income streams, you will be in the driver’s seat to earn however much you want to.

How will you support me through my training and afterwards?

We really do care that you succeed in this industry, and that you get the best possible start through our training. We have been where you are, searching for the right training organisation to trust, and we can tell you that we will support you 100% in your journey and beyond, through mentoring, coaching, our world-class training, and other structures.

Do I need national or international accreditation to be a Coach?

Frankly, no. The coaching industry is as yet unregulated to the point of accreditation being necessary. However, we recommend that, when choosing a training provider  you take into account the quality of the training and how it is going to work for you. We believe that we’re the best choice because we walk our talk, we’re totally on your side, we keep up with the latest coach training trends, and we truly understand what it’s like for you at your end! With us, you are individual and important, and very valued.

How much face to face training do you provide?

We have several different tracks you can choose when embarking on your training with us. Our flagship Accelerated Coach Training program actually has the most face to face training days of any coach training provider in Australia, with 12 full days. The rest of the training is taken up with teleconferences and webinars. You can do this training over 3 months, which is our quickest option, or a more laid-back 12-18 months self-paced. We believe that 3 months is the minimum amount of time you should be training to be a Coach because it takes time to practice techniques and really let the learning sink in. However, the beautiful thing about our 3 month training program is that we use accelerated learning techniques to ensure that you will have the confidence, knowledge, and drive to get straight out there and set up your coaching business or coach within your workplace in only 3 months from your training start date! Of course, if this kind of intensive study doesn’t fit in with your current lifestyle, we have the longer self-paced course available too.

How soon can I start working as a Coach?

We encourage our students to start coaching half way through their training program, so you could be officially coaching 6 weeks from the start of your course. You’ll also be doing a lot of coaching within the course, to your fellow students.

I haven’t studied for a very long time. Will I be able to keep up?

Yes, you’ll be fine. We understand that our students come from all sorts of different situations and that many of them haven’t studied since school (and, even then, they didn’t really do much study!). Rather than being academically based, with lots of essays, our training is extremely experiential, meaning that we are more focused on Doing and Being than on just writing about it. You will find that our training is fun, powerful, and captivating, and that you’ll really look forward to each session! And we use great learning techniques to ensure that you retain the information and are able to recall it whenever you need it in the future.
